Getting started with the editor
Learn your way around the editor, how drafts and publishing work, and where to get help.
The editor is where you change your website yourself: words, photos, pages, menu, colors and how you show up on Google. This guide shows you around. You can try all of it on the live demo first.
Open the editor
- Sign in to your dashboard.
- Click Edit site. The editor opens, with SiteBrite and your business name at the top left.
The editor has three parts:
- The left menu picks what you want to change.
- The middle holds the forms you fill in.
- The right side is a live preview of your site. It updates as you type.
For your security, an editing session ends after 12 hours. Your changes are saved; click Sign in on the Please sign in again message to carry on.
Find your way around your dashboard
Your dashboard opens on Overview: what needs you, your Inbox and To-dos, and a card for each of the other dashboards that says how things stand there. The menu on the left lists the dashboards: Overview, Sites, Business, Studio and Account (Billing, Credits, Team, your emails and Connections). The one you're in opens to show its own links, and Business at the top of them picks which business you're working on. Help center and Sign out are at the bottom. On a phone, open the menu with the button at the top.
The Sites dashboard shows your site as a card with:
- its web address and a status, like Live or Building
- for a converted site, its Search and speed report, comparing your old site and the new one
- a line about your kind of business (see Tell us your kind of business)
- Edit site, which opens the editor
- Connect your domain (it says Domain once connected). See Connect your domain.
- Plan and add-ons, to turn on Bookings, the Online store and the rest. See Add-ons.
- how many problems to fix before you can publish, when the editor's checks found any
- Download your site, for the account owner. See Taking your site with you. Cancel this site is at the bottom of Plan and add-ons: see Cancel one site.
Bookings, the inbox, the online store and the Ask us chat are in the Business dashboard.
A free preview that isn't launched yet has its own card, with Launch it and See preview. To start another site, use Add another site at the end of the list.
Edit straight from your site
Once you've opened the editor in a browser, your live site shows a small Edit this page button in the bottom corner, in that browser only. Your visitors never see it.
- Go to the page you want to change on your live site.
- Click Edit this page. The editor opens on that page. If you've been signed out, sign in and it takes you there.
To hide the button, click the × next to it (Hide this button). It comes back the next time you open the editor from your dashboard.
The screens in the left menu
On a phone, the menu is a bar across the top that scrolls sideways.
- Pages: every page on your site. Open one to change its words and photos, or click New page to add one. See Edit text and photos and Add a page.
- Lists: things you show on more than one page, like events, your team, reviews and FAQs. See Lists.
- Inbox: messages from your forms, with a count of new ones. See Forms and your inbox.
- Store: products, store settings and orders. See Sell products with the online store.
- Bookings: booking requests, sign-up lists and booking settings. See Take bookings on your site.
- Menu: the links across the top of your site, the small links at the bottom, and the highlighted button in the top corner. See Change your menu and footer links.
- Business info: your name, phone, email, hours, address, logo and social links. Change them once and they update everywhere. See Business info and hours.
- Theme: the design, colors, fonts, corners, and header and footer layouts. See Theme and brand colors.
- Languages: your site in Spanish, and its wording. See Show your site in Spanish.
- Integrations: connect tools you already use, like a booking calendar or payment links. See the list at the end of this article.
- Search & sharing: how your site looks on Google and when people share it, plus redirects from an old website. See Search and sharing and Redirects.
- Domain: the steps for using your own web address, like www.yourbusiness.com, with the values to copy. See Connect your domain.
- Version history: every published version of your site, to look at or put back. See Version history.
- AI changes: ask for something the editor can't do, priced before it runs. See Ask for an AI change.
- What's new: features added to your site lately, newest first. A dot on it means there's something you haven't seen. Click Try it to open the screen, or How it works for the guide.
Drafts and publishing
Your changes are saved automatically as a draft. Visitors don't see a draft. Only you do, in the preview.
The top bar shows Everything is published when your live site matches the editor, or a count like 3 unpublished changes. If something needs fixing first, it also shows a red button like 2 to fix. When you're happy:
- Click Publish at the top right.
- Check the list of changes, then click Publish now.
- Your site updates in about a minute.
See Publish your changes for the site check and what to do if publishing stops.
Each time you publish, a new version of your site is saved. If you ever regret a change after publishing, you can restore an earlier version for free. See Version history.
Throw away unpublished changes
To start again from your live site:
- Click Discard in the top bar, or Discard changes at the end of the left menu (on a phone, only the menu has it).
- Click Discard changes to confirm.
This throws away all unpublished changes and puts your draft back to match the live site. It can't be undone, so only use it when you want a clean start.
There's no general undo button. Undo appears right after you remove a section, delete a page or switch designs. To reverse any other small edit, change it back by hand.
Preview on a phone, tablet or computer
Most visitors will see your site on a phone, so check it there before you publish.
- Find the bar above the preview, marked Draft preview.
- Click the computer, tablet or phone button on its right. The preview redraws at that size.
You can also click links in the preview to move between your pages, and click any part of a page to jump to its form. If your site is also in Spanish, the EN and ES buttons in the same bar switch the preview's language.
To see what visitors see right now, click View live site (on a computer; on a phone, open your site in another tab).
Editing on your phone? The screen is too small for both halves, so use the Edit and Preview buttons at the top to switch between them.
Tell us your kind of business
On your dashboard, each site has a line under its name, like "Car wash: what works for sites like yours". Click it to open Your kind of business. We usually fill this in from your preview, and you can change it there: pick the kind of business that fits, or Something else, and click Save.
For each kind of business, we looked at dozens of real websites. Once yours is set, that page shows:
- what sites like yours should show, most important first, with a guide to setting up each one
- add-ons worth adding
- photos worth taking, and searches to try in Free photos
- rules to keep in mind for your kind of business
In your editor, the Pages screen then has suggestions above your list of pages, like Suggestions for car wash sites. Click them to see which of those things your site already has (a green tick) and which it doesn't yet, each with a button to where you'd add it. We check your words, sections and business info, so a few suggestions are only reminders we can't check for you. None of them stops you publishing.
It also helps the rest of your editor: Free photos offers searches that fit your business, Suggest questions in your FAQ list starts from what your customers usually ask, and the help assistant knows the guide for your kind of business. The guides are all in Guides by business.
Where to get help
- Ask the assistant. Click Help at the top of the editor (or the Help button on your dashboard) and ask in your own words. It shows you the steps, the guide and the screen to open. See Get help.
- This help center. Every task in the editor has a step-by-step guide. Start with the articles linked above.
- Write to our team. Something not working, or a question the assistant can't answer? It writes a message to our team for you to check and send. It's free, and a person answers by email within 2 business days.
- AI changes. For something the editor can't do, like a new kind of section or a layout change, describe it in AI changes in the editor. You see a price before anything runs, and you pay nothing if you don't keep the result.
- Work requests. If AI can't do it, a person can: the AI changes card offers Have us do it with a fixed price, held from your credits and charged only when you say it's done.
There's no phone line. Help from a person is free for billing, canceling and anything that's our fault, and quoted up front for everything else. We don't set up domains or DNS records for you, and we can't sign in to your domain provider. Connect your domain has the steps and a prompt for other providers.

Still stuck?
Try it on the live demo first; nothing you do there is saved. If you’d rather have a person do it, ask for a work request from your dashboard. You’ll get a quote before any work starts.
