Change your menu and footer links
Choose which pages appear in your site's menu, in what order, and set up your footer links and header button.
Your menu is the row of links across the top of every page. On phones, it folds into a menu button. You decide which pages go in it and in what order. The same screen also handles the small links at the very bottom of your site and the highlighted button in the top corner.
Add a page to the menu
- Click Menu in the left menu.
- Under Main menu, look for Pages not in the menu. Each page that isn't linked yet has its own button.
- Click a page's button. It's added to the end of your menu, using the page's name as the label.
Add a link to another website
For a link that isn't one of your pages, like your online store on another website:
- Under Main menu, click Add menu link. A link called "New link" is added at the end.
- Type the Label. This is the word visitors see. Keep it short; the box allows 24 characters.
- In Goes to, pick Another website… and paste the link. You can also pick one of your pages, or Call or Email to use your phone number or email address from Business info.
Change the order
Each menu link has buttons on its right:
- Move up and Move down change its place in the menu. A link in a dropdown moves within its dropdown.
Click a button several times to move a link further. There's no drag and drop yet.
Make a dropdown
A dropdown tucks several links under one menu item, like all your services under "Services".
- Put the links you want in the dropdown right below the item they belong under.
- On each one, click Put in dropdown under the item above. The link moves in under that item.
- To take a link back out, click Move out of dropdown.
Dropdowns go one level deep. You can't put a dropdown inside another dropdown.
Rename or remove a menu link
- Rename: change the Label. The page itself keeps its name. Only the menu wording changes.
- Remove: click Remove from menu (the trash can). The page stays on your site. It just isn't in the menu anymore. You can add it back from Pages not in the menu.
Add footer links
Footer links are the small links at the very bottom of every page, next to your copyright line. They're a good home for a privacy policy or terms page.
- Under Footer links, click Add footer link.
- Type the Label (up to 30 characters) and pick where it Goes to.
- To remove one, click Remove link (the trash can).
A footer link with no label or no destination isn't shown on your site.
Your footer also lists your home page plus each top-level link in your main menu (under Explore in the Columns footer), so you don't need to add those again. To change how the footer is laid out, see Choose a footer layout.
Your address, phone, email, hours, tagline and social links show in the footer too. Change those in Business info. See Business info and hours.
Set up the header button
The Header button is the highlighted button at the top right of every page, like "Get a free quote".
- Click Menu in the left menu.
- Under Header button, type the Button text (up to 24 characters).
- Pick where it Goes to. Your contact page or your phone number work well. Point it at a pop-up page to open a form over the page. See Open a page as a pop-up.
To hide the button, clear the Button text box.
Add a call bar on phones
Most people who call a local business do it from a phone. The call bar keeps a Call button, and your header button, at the bottom of the screen on phones, so they're always one tap away.
- Click Menu in the left menu.
- Under Header button, turn on Call bar on phones.
- Optional: under Text button, pick Text message or WhatsApp to add a button for that too.
- If you picked one, fill in Number for texts (or WhatsApp number). Leave it empty to use the phone number in Business info. Landlines usually can't receive texts, so use a mobile number if yours is one.
- Click Publish.
The Call button uses the phone number in Business info. The bar only shows on phone-sized screens.
Tips
- Keep your menu to about five or six links so it fits on one line. Use a dropdown for the rest.
- When you change a page's web address, every link to it follows: menu links, footer links, the header button and buttons on your pages. See Rename a page or change its web address.
- Deleting a page removes its menu and footer links. Other links to it, like the header button, go to the page you pick when you delete it. See Delete a page.
- Your phone number shows in the header automatically when it's filled in under Business info.
- The banner across the top of every page is set in Business info, not here. See Announcement bar.
- Don't forget to click Publish when you're done. See Getting started.
Still stuck?
Try it on the live demo first; nothing you do there is saved. If you’d rather have a person do it, ask for a work request from your dashboard. You’ll get a quote before any work starts.
