Fill in a menu or price list from a photo or PDF
Skip the typing. Choose a photo or PDF of your printed menu or price list and AI copies the groups, items and prices into your site. You check everything before it goes live.
If your menu or price list already exists on paper or as a PDF, you don't have to type it in. Choose the file and AI copies it into a Price list / menu section. It's included in your plan, with no extra charge.
Import a menu
- In your site's editor, open the page with your Price list / menu section. If you don't have one yet, click Add a section and choose Price list / menu.
- Click the section to open it, then click Fill in from a photo or PDF.
- Click Choose files and pick up to 4 photos or PDFs, 4 MB each. Click Remove next to any you picked by mistake.
- Click Read this file (or Read these files).
- Wait about a minute and keep the window open. AI adds what it found as new groups at the bottom of the section.
- Click Check the groups to close the window and look them over.
Nothing goes on your live site until you publish.
Check what it found
AI can misread small print or a smudged price, so look at every group before you publish:
- Open each group and compare the names, prices and descriptions with your menu.
- Fix anything that's wrong, and delete groups or items you don't want.
- Tags like V or GF are only added when your menu prints them. If it has a key, What the tags mean is filled in for you.
- Mark as popular is turned on only for items your menu calls a favorite, a best seller or a chef's pick.
Your own groups are never changed. New groups are added after them. If a new group has the same name as one you already have, it gets a number, like Lunch (2).
Get a good result
- Photos: lay the menu flat, shoot straight on in good light, and fill the photo with the menu. Use one photo per page, and don't crop off the prices.
- PDFs: a PDF made from a design program or word processor works best. A scan works too if it's sharp.
- Several pages: choose all the files at once, in order. A heading that carries over to the next page becomes one group.
- A section holds up to 12 groups, and up to 30 items in each. A longer list is split into "continued" groups. If the section fills up, the window says how many groups were left out: remove a group you don't need and import again for the rest.
If it can't read your file
You'll see a short reason, like "The photo is too blurry to read the prices." Try a clearer photo, or a PDF. You can always add groups and items yourself in the same section.
You can read up to 10 menus a day on each site.
Your files
The files are used only to read the menu. They aren't put on your website and nobody else can see them. To show a photo of your menu, add it with a photo section instead.
